Saving the rainforest together

Support our rainforest protection and reforestation project now

Tropical rainforests are the most biodiverse places on earth. In addition, we owe them the regulation of global water cycles, the stabilization of the earth’s climate, the supply of medicines and much more.
Through our project, we protect standing rainforest, reforest destroyed areas with native tree species and turn monoculture plantations into biodiversity-friendly cocoa gardens.

How can you take part?

Plant you own jungle tree! You support us directly in the cultivation and planting of a future jungle giant. As a thank you, you will receive a personal, individualized planting certificate with the name of your choice.

Castell NaturSchatz account open an account! As part of our cooperation with the Fürstlich Castell’schen Bank, you can support our project with part of your interest rate. Castell Bank will increase the amount of support to a total of 1.2%. These interest earnings then flow into our reforestation project.

Buy PERÚ PURO products! Of course, the purchase of our fine products also supports this project, the smallholder families and their organic farming.

Every tree counts

A large jungle tree can release 1000 liters of water per day into the atmosphere. But even a much younger tree binds CO2,
provides animals with food or shelter.
That’s why every tree counts!
With the help of our supporters, we plant various species of native jungle trees in places where they have been lost due to logging or fires.
We also help smallholder families to establish highly diverse agroforestry systems through targeted planting.

Our project area

The middle urubamba valley

The valley of the Rio Urubamba lies around 200 kilometers north-east of the legendary Cusco, in the mountain rainforest on the eastern slope of the Andes. Unlike the part of the upper Urubamba Valley that is well developed for tourism, this region is remote and pristine. It is a two-day journey from Cusco to the remote valley.

The green bridge from the highlands to the Amazon basin

The Urubamba Valley connects the ecosystems of the Andean highlands with the mountain and lowland rainforest of the Amazon basin. The narrow valley is the only connection for animal species that move back and forth between the protected areas. Through our project, we are helping to preserve and expand this important corridor.

Breathtaking biodiversity

Our project area connects the Otishi National Park in the Andean highlands with particularly valuable nature reserves of the Alto Purus mountain and lowland rainforest, the Manu and the Megantoni. The area is a so-called megadiversity hotspot, one of the most biodiverse regions on earth.

Paradise in danger

Illegal logging and, above all, unadapted agriculture with slash-and-burn farming and monocultures are increasingly fragmenting and destroying the valuable forests of the Urubamba Valley. This is destroying habitats and wildlife corridors and damaging the climate. We are countering this by protecting standing forests and replanting trees where deforestation has taken place.

Our project work

Native tree species

In the Urubamba Valley, many tree species have become rare due to overexploitation. For our reforestation projects, we only use tree species that are native to this ecosystem. Our local team uses jungle giants from still intact rainforest as a seed source for growing new seedlings. In this way, the young trees are adapted to the local conditions and help to stabilize the natural ecosystem.

Our tree nursery

Our tree nurseries provide a perfect start in life. This is where we germinate the seeds and allow the seedlings to grow. This is a major challenge because each tree species requires different conditions for germination and growth, which are often not yet known. In addition, the sensitive seedlings have to be protected from insect damage and fungi – without any chemicals!

Well protected

We use special, reusable plastic cylinders to transport the trees from the nursery to the planting areas.
This ensures that the seedlings are well protected during the often hours-long transportation from the tree nursery to the planting areas on off-road motorcycles and on foot.

Planting trees with expertise

Our forestry experts decide together with the project farmers which tree species will be planted in which location. In doing so, we follow the scientific guidelines for sustainable, biodiversity-oriented reforestation and gather important findings for future projects.

Monitoring

Each tree is GPS mapped and marked during planting.

Health and growth are checked and documented during regular inspection visits. In this way, we ensure that the trees survive the sensitive early years safely.

Trees that have been damaged or eaten up are replaced so that a tree actually grows for every certificate issued.

Little plants become forest giants

We have been working with many of our project farmer families for over 20 years. A tree can grow as big as the one in this photo over such a long period of time.
The families practice sustainable, certified organic cocoa cultivation in species-rich agroforestry systems. This protects the rainforest from deforestation because no new areas need to be cleared. Sustainable agriculture also ensures that future generations receive land in a better condition than their parents themselves received.

Any support helps these families.

I'll go along with that!

Plant a jungle tree NOW:

At a glance

With the help of our supporters, we are preserving rare tree species, protecting rainforest, strengthening and reforesting an important biodiversity corridor.

The support is not only used to plant and care for a tree, but also to help committed smallholder families in our project to convert their land into biodiversity-friendly, sustainable nature reserves.
As a thank you, we issue an individual, digital tree certificate.
